Shaina, CRLS Class of 2018 recipient of the Friends of CRLS First Scholars Award, now enrolled at Salem State University, told us:

“One of my personal goals is to become a Neonatal Nurse because I have a strong love for babies. I also want to help ease families’ responsibility while taking care of newborns.  My other goal is to go back to my country, Haiti, to build a hospital, because in Haiti, not a lot of mothers have the access to give birth at a hospital.  This scholarship will help me achieve my passion’s goal, because I will be able to stay focused on my career instead of thinking about how I will repay loans.”

Congratulations, Shaina!

Max, an alto saxophonist and CRLS Class of 2018 recipient of the “100 by 100” Cambridge
Business Community Scholarship for the Arts, who is enrolled at the Berklee College of Music,
told us:

“While at Berklee I will take advantage of everything available to me, including auditioning for global touring groups such as the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in order to study with the many knowledgeable and experienced teachers through that program. During my time at Berklee I will relentlessly pursue my craft, so that I am desired as a performer and bandleader by the time I have graduated. This includes strengthening my skills doubling (playing other in-demand instruments), composing, arranging, and producing so that I am not limited in job prospects.”

Congratulations, Max!

Marie, CRLS Class of 2018 recipient of the Patrick Ewing Scholarship, who is enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, told us:

“My goals and plans for the next four plus years are to go to college to major in pre-med and also to become a physical therapist. As new doors open to a new world of challenges, I plan to thrive and push myself to reach my goal.  I want to be able to help people recover and encourage people not to give up, even when they think that the state they’re in is permanent or is a barrier preventing them from doing what they were able to do before.”

Congratulations, Marie!

Joshua, CRLS Class of 2018 recipient of the Mary Frances Monti Scholarship, who is enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, told us:

“I really see the genuine worth in maintaining literature in our modern society. I want to pursue literature in any medium that allows me to share it with the world and those around me.  The infinite open-endedness of literature allows for a deeper sense of individualism while simultaneously pulling us closer together – and being able to show it and introduce it to others is a real and significant dream I will not give up on.”

Congratulations, Joshua!
